London Contrasts Old and New
London is a city of contrasts; old vs. new. I hope to fully illustrate this with some of the pictures we took on our recent trip. New, modern buildings abound, but many times they are next to some very old buildings. This makes the views very interesting and beautiful.
The City of London is a city and county within London. It constituted most of London from its settlement by the Romans in the 1st century AD to the Middle Ages, but London has since grown far beyond the City’s borders. The City is now only a tiny part of the metropolis of London, though it remains a notable part of central London. It is one of two districts of London to hold city status; the other is the adjacent City of Westminster.
The City of London is widely referred to simply as the City (often written as just City and differentiated from the phrase “the city of London” by capitalizing City) and is also colloquially known as the Square Mile. Both of these terms are also often used for the United Kingdom’s trading and financial services industries, which continue a notable history of being largely based in the City. London is an amazing family travel destination with loads to see and do. Modern and centuries old buildings stand within a stones throw of each other. I hope that you have enjoyed our photos of London Contrasts. And, I hope that someday you can visit, too.
