Disney Dining at Home 2
Chocolate Lava Cake
On our first cruise with the Disney Cruise Line, we were served what each of us thought was the best, most luscious, most decadent, and most delicious dessert that we had ever eaten; the Chocolate Lave Cake. On our next two cruises, we again savored the Chocolate Lava Cake. Our servers on the Disney Wonder and Disney Fantasy each mentioned a day in advance that the favorite of Disney Cruise Line desserts would be served the following night and to make sure not to miss it: chocolate lava cake.
The chocolate lava cake provides oozing, chocolate goodness with perfect levels of sweetness (sweet, but not too sweet), richness, and moistness. I thought that a dessert this wonderful was well beyond my basic, amateur, baking skills. I decided t0 give it a try, though. A Google search yielded multiple options. I chose one from Ree Drummond on FoodNetwork.com because it had 5 star reviews.
Ingredients: baking spray, butter, bittersweet chocolates, semi-sweet chocolates, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and flour.
* Requires 4 custard cups
The estimated prep time is 10 minutes and baking time 15 minutes for a total of 25 minutes. It took me longer (I am not an experienced baker), closer to 40 minutes total time. I am sure that it will be easier the next time I do it. It really was not that hard.
Wow! This home version for Chocolate Lava Cake produces cakes that have the same taste, texture, aroma, and oozing goodness of the Disney Cruise Line Cakes. The only difference was that our custard cups (the size recommended in the recipe) and thus the size of the dessert is about twice as large as the Disney Cruise Line version.
Try this recipe! This was a complete success!
