Disney Cruise Line Top 5
The food is easily my favorite thing on the Disney cruises, but the dining experience itself wouldn’t be near as good without the classic Disney atmosphere. The food is always fantastic. I love steak, and if possible, I get it as the main course every night. Besides steaks, there is always a wide variety of other main courses from which to choose. They also have a wonderful selection of appetizers, which are usually as good or better than most of the entres. The soup and salad options are delicious as well. Honestly though, I’ve never had a single salad. The deserts are amazing night after night. Apart from the food, the atmosphere is amazing. Each restaurant has a certain theme. The themes remain mostly consistent from ship to ship. The Fantasy and the Dream have the exact same restaurants, but the Magic and Wonder each have a unique option.
Besides the three main restaurants, which you rotate through during your cruise, there is the restaurant Palo, which serves Italian cuisine (for extra money of course). On the Fantasy and Dream, there is the Ratatouille themed restaurant named Remy. Several “Hidden Remys” can be found about the restaurant.
If you want a buffet, Cabanas/Beach Blanket Buffet have you covered. For breakfast, lunch, and dinner, you can pop in and grab a bite. While the buffet is good on all ships, it is the best on the Fantasy and the Dream. On these ships, the selection is much larger.
2. Disney Atmosphere
This seems like a very general thing, as it encompasses everything on the boat. The outside of the boat is in the colors of red, white, black, and yellow. The black bottom of it is to match the fur of Mickey. The yellow life-boats on the side are in the color of Mickey’s boots. Most of the floors of the ship are white. Above the white section are red smoke-stacks, which represent the color of Mickey’s trousers.
On the inside, Mickey heads adorn everything, as can be expected from Disney.
Between each floor on the stairwells is a collage of images from various Disney films or shorts. Each floor on each stairwell contains different pictures from all others.
All public spaces (lobby, lounges, bars, halls,…) are filled with copious amounts of Disney things. Classic Disney tunes can be heard throughout the ship.
As many of you likely know, Disney’s shows are the best in the cruise industry. To me, the Disney theming of the shows makes them far better than those of other cruise lines. Of course, I don’t know what shows are on other cruise lines, but I don’t care.
In addition to the Disney stage shows, there are other performers aboard the ships. During our cruises, there have been a hypnotist, ventriloquists, comedians/variety acts, and much more. I highly recommend that you check them out when you take a Disney cruise.
4. Trivia/Disneyfied Gameshows
In the various bars and lounges, usually on the fourth floor, the cruise staff team hosts games. Depending on the time and whether it is a port day, you could either be the only one there, or there could be twenty or more participants. My personal favorite thing to do in the lounges is trivia. Trivia competitions are held generally twice a day in the afternoon. There is a wide variety of topics: Disney trivia, Disney movie trivia, name that Disney tune, name that (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s) tune, famous movie quotes, pub trivia, sports trivia, and more. It’s a very fun activity to do; especially with your family.
5. The Cast and Crew
This could easily be at the top of the list, because without the friendly Disney cast members, it wouldn’t be the same. One of the best things about the trivia and games is the Cruise Staff Team. They are fun, funny and energetic. The fabulous stage performers are obviously cast members as well. The servers at the restaurants are always helpful and friendly. The room hosts and even the deck hands are pleasant and helpful, adding to the Disney atmosphere.
A shoutout to some of our favorite cast members: Corey, Michael, Wendy, another Michael, Chris, Valmar, Gus, Jayson, Hellen, Larissa, Jay, Raf, and Lucio. Thank you!
